The Dollmaker is my character concept for the Industry Practice module from the final year of my course at Teesside University.
An interpretation of "The Obsessive" archetype, briefed in the module, the Dollmaker is a prideful yet fractured man whose hunger to craft his magnum opus ultimately transforms him into a twisted visage of his own creations.
The combination of a gentlemanly disposition and, after development, a distinguished take on a woodworker's attire visually conveys his self-absorbed character and obsessional occupation. The concept of a doll maker serves as an effective means to convey the theme of control and obsession; his connection to "The Idol", another archetype brief of the module, based on a living doll, adds depth to their characters and the personal narrative of both characters.
